The University of Education, Winneba, has one of the best-kown departments of music in sub-Saharan Africa.
The Department has a long history of academic and professional excellence from the days of Achimota College (1949), the
Kwame Nkrumah College of Technology (1951), through the days of the Specialist Training College (1958), to those of the National

USA, Asia, and the Caribbean.
After four decades of evolution, the Department has created an International Centre for Pan African Music (ICPAM) to provide
a wide variety of information on African music, and serve as a museum to showcase African musical instruments.
It has programmes throughout the year, with a special summer holiday course for overseas students - “Campus International”.
